Both of my prototypes had been rendered completely inoperable a week ago. The solar charge controller circuit seemed to be dead, and the booster circuit no longer boosted. Fortunately, I managed to get things sorted out. It appears the charging circuit overheated and went into error mode (which is annoying, but at least it wasn’t fried). The booster circuit had a bug in it, but the fix turned out to be a fairly simple jumper cable that only required one route to be cut, and one of the two USB ports to be sacrificed.
I’m back to having at least one functioning unit, so I was able to test it with a friend’s iPad, and I’m happy to say that it works like a charm! I’ll be doing more field testing at Burning Man, and look forward to reporting on the results when I get back…
